Our Efforts
We are a third generation family owned business dedicated to sustainable business practices throughout entire business operations. From forests on our company land to the products we provide our customers, we are committed to sustainable growth and responsible business practices. These include 100% recovery and use of raw materials during manufacturing that include sawdust, chips, and bark; responsible wood procurement for our facilities; efficient systems for our manufacturing processes that provide better recovery and less waste.
To minimize our environmental impact and provide consistent products that can be relied upon is a key part of our past, present, and future ethical approach to doing business. |
Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design
- LEED is a standard managed by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) and the Canadian Green Building Council (CaGBC).
- The standard encourages and promotes the development of high performance, energy efficient, sustainable buildings.
- Participation is voluntary but more and more the LEED standard is becoming known as a standard for green construction.
MR ID Credit 2 LEED - Construction Waste Intent of Standard: Divert construction, demolition, and packaging debris from landfill disposal. Redirect recyclable recovered resources back to the manufacturing process. Redirect reusable material to appropriate sites.
Kennebec Lumber Company Our product packaging can be diverted from the landfill and sent to recycling facilities. |
Credit 5 LEED - Regional Materials Intent of Standard: Increase demand for building materials and products that are extracted and manufactured within the region, thereby supporting the regional economy and reducing the environmental impact resulting from increased transportation.
Kennebec Lumber Company All of our raw materials (lumber and logs) comes from within a 500 mile radius of our Solon, Maine mill. It is very important for us to source our material locally for not only promotion of the green program and efficiency, but also to ensure consistent wood color and grain appearance for our products. |
